If I felt an elderly neighbour had been ripped off by unnecessary work been done to their property, at an exorbitant price, I would certainly help them get in touch with trading standards and the police if necessary. Especially if they had no family to help them.
Maybe, if I could and they wanted my help.

My Dad was sucked into scammers to the tune of £1-3k per month, he wouldn't be told that there wasn't going to be a new car delivered once he'd sent off the admin fee.

well it all depends....
but generically yes

sending the Boys around - no - you then get indebted to the Boys and that can be even worse.

as for the loss - they may well have to write it off and put it down to (another unwanted) experience.
