Used mine for the first time yesterday, afterwards it occurred to me that anyone could steal my card and swipe it,whereas putting a PIN number in gave more security, how secure are these new ones?

I've thought about this quite a bit earlier in the year and decided I'd forgo the pleasure of having one. There is supposed to be an upper limit of £20 and the banks will apparently guarantee against fraudulent use.

However, proving it wasn't you using it and the banks way of weasling out of everything on the merest of excuses, means a no, no from me.
I feel the same way as Slack, I'll be sending any cards back that come contactless, there should be a choice.
Never ever used mine, always use PIN.Safer.
I didn't even know my card was one of these, until the chap in WH Smith told me...
not secure at all for small amounts. This is not new we have them at work for paying for small things, just make sure you keep them in your pocket. There is a small metal case on amazon if you are worried:

Went in my bank and asked the question and was told you can only do this for up to £20, and they are alert to these transactions, and she said as long as I keep my card secure there is no danger, which I do at all times. Thanks for everyone's comments
I love mine, makes paying for smaller stuff a lot quicker in places which use them. I tend to use it in pretty much the same places and similar amounts given there are only certain places which use them.
I used to refer to cash as "beer tokens" as that was about the only goods (apart from the Daily Telegraph) that I used it for. Since getting my contactless card I simply "wave" when I get two pints for me and Mrs NJ. Easy peasy! Bring on the cashless society !!!
I work in a Post Office and we have had contactless payment terminals for a couple of years now. They are limited to a maximum of £20 and there are a maximum number of transactions a day (6 I think). I must say that i find my contactless payment card very handy when I go on the M6 toll.
