I have run Malwarebytes which has identified a number of PUPs. At the moment these are safely quarantined but not yet removed.
I have been told to also download and RKill but when I tried to do this I immediately got a message saying "This file is malicious and Chrome has blocked it".
Questions:-
Do I need RKill?
What am I doing wrong in the download process?
How should I do it?

Who asked you to download RKill ??
You don't need it.
Delete Malwarebytes PUP's
There are a few dodgy websites offering d/l options for RKill.
I doubt if you really need it. Start you pc in 'safe mode' and then run Malwarebytes again and allow it to remove any nasties it finds.

Restart your pc afterwards to return to normal mode.
How big was your litter of Pups?. I would be interested to know the number.

My serious answer is identical to redman's.

Thank you all for your replies.
I ran Malwarebytes (malwarebytes.org) and AdwCleaner (from bleepingcomputer.com) and it was on this site that I saw the recommendation to run Rkill.
I have previously used Adwcleaner to get rid of inadvertently installed toolbars and the like but had not even looked at Rkill before.
Now I have all your comments my curiosity is satisfied!
