Now that I have received my Ins claim money, have you got any suggestions or recommendations about buying one, as there 100s out there, which confuse me with all the PC jargon etc?

I will probably want to buy a 20/21,inch monitor with it, so maybe buying the two I could get a bargain.

My usage will be just for general use, plus videos and gaming.

Thanks, Ron.

Dell do a good range of PCs that are also good value. I lean more towards the full on gaming PCs so it is difficult to advise for something not quite so demanding. I recently spent £700 getting a cheapish gaming PC built by a company called PC Specialist (online) but that was just the tower, no monitor or peripherals.
I have a sony Vaio and although took a while to get used to Windows 8, it is a good buy, and they are there to support you whenever you need it, and at the end of 2 years guarantee they collect the laptop and give it a free service and clean up and deliver it back.

I meant to ask about windows 8, as I heard some negative reports about it and people said the 7 is better which I have.

I use Windows 8 and i'm still not a big fan of it, it is slightly better since they implemented 8.1 but it still confuses me on occasion and I am quite computer savvy, it could well be a lot worse for someone with less experience. I did have the option of having Windows 7 installed when I had this PC built but decided to 'bite the bullet' if you like and try to get used to 8, my laptop (rarely used) also has 8 on it.
