Is mankind's living in peace an unrealistic goal, or do you think that (almost wholly male) aggression is a key factor in the Darwinian development of the species?

Patently.
I'd imagine people in the future will look back in disbelief, if we haven't all killed each other by then.
So you think we'll grow out of it Svejk? Not much sign of it is there?

Yes. BIG 'if' tho.
Yeah, was thinking that as my finger hovered over the submit button. ;)
err no Svejk, most of the gun/knife crime in the world has more to do with drugs, gangs, money and power. Religion, ANY religion, is only one of the excuses for factionism.
Over the last few months I have been watching the news showing various people fighting in all parts of the world.

It seems to me it the people who MAKE the weapons we should be annoyed with.

If people could not get the guns they could not fight each other so easily.

It's just, when I look at my garden, - a microcosm of nature - the birds I feed are seemingly enjoying themselves, but when you observe closely, there is a lot of aggressive scrapping going on, also the plants are all fighting competitively for space and survival and the insects are all eating one another, and I ponder with melancholy -coffee cup in hand- if humanity isn't helplessly caught up in the same cycle.
Perhaps it will pass :0)
Nature is red in tooth and claw.

Actually, I have realised, there is at least one garden exception in that I have a Mirabelle tree full of blossom and alive with bees, the bees do only good by pollinating so I can make my jam in August. Sad though that they work so hard and we steal their honey.
Back on the human front, I think there are bad times ahead in France, which are likely to spread further.
France?
It would be interesting to know just how many years of "world Peace" there has been since records began.
'Of the past 3,400 years, humans have been entirely at peace for 268 of them, or just 8 percent of recorded history.'
Thanks Zac, sickening isn't it!!
VHG, before guns there were swords, pikes knives, axes, and bows, before that clubs and flints, before that rocks and tree branches, before that bare hands.....
Question Author
when adversaries used those weapons they knew at least whom it was they were fighting, now we have the indiscriminate use of home-made bombs against innocent people from an enemy within. It's hard to see how those with such a mind-set can be defeated.
