I want to buy an item on line

Distance selling regulations state you as a consumer have the right to return a product. If you had to open the packaging to see that the product was not suitable then you should try and repackage it as carefully as you can and return it . They have a legal obligation to provide a refund. There are exceptions however to do with health and safety,so if you can say what it is you wish to return I may be able to give you a better answer.
When I was in a local DIY shed I asked about returns as the item was in one of those bubble sealed packs that one has to break open. I was told if it were cut careful across the top so they could re-seal and resell it, that would be ok. I would have thought the same should apply to mail order items. Don't wreck the packaging and it ought to be ok.
Henry I can't answer your question because I don't know the proper, legal answer. But, if you are buying one of those collapsible squashy hoses, just a word of warning - I've heard several friends say they are absolutely useless, complete waste of money as they don't work properly so have been thrown away.
....and another thumbs-down for X-hose (and similar)....excellent idea but very badly executed. Total waste of money, in hundreds of peoples' opinions.
