It seems that Cameron and the government want to have access to all our private conversations etc on sites such as Google and WhatsApp yet at the same time wants to ban such sites as WhatsApp.
Am I missing the point. The authorities should be able to spy on you, you are not allowed privacy from the authorities. I assume WhatsApp must be using a decent encoding algorithm maybe ?
The police should not have access to this information. That's what the snooper's charter will grant.
GCHQ will be able to get hold of it regardless - if they're any good!
The PM is claiming that this information isn't being shared correctly.
I understand this frustration as any information going through an american server (or through an american company) can be collected by the US gov under the patriot act.
Whatsapp will only be banned if they don't hand over their data to the Government.
Unfortunately companies that respect their customers privacy are resorting to destroying the information, rather than hand it over. So it is totally self defeating and results in valuable evidence being lost.
