I'm pleased that the squirrel was released, unharmed (apart, possibly, from a hangover) into the wild but I wonder if the people who caught it realised that they were committing a criminal offence by doing so? Once you've trapped an animal from a non-native species, the law prohibits you from releasing it back into the wild.
