I would trust a driverless car more than a driven car. A driverless car will not exceed the speed limit, drive drunk or on drugs. Will not be distracted or fail to concentrate 100%, will not rush if it is late. Will not use a mobile phone while driving, or glance out of the window at a view or at an accident. It will obay 100%, all road rules 100% of the time. It will never get lost or have to stop and ask directions,it will never drive too close to the car in front.
It will react to situations in milliseconds far faster than even a F1 driver.
The problems will be when both types of car are on the road together, once the roads are 100% driverless there will be virtually no accidents.
There will come a time when the idea of driving your own car will be thought of as like using a quill pen instead of a computer word processser.

In the socialist paradise that is Sturgeon's Scotland, consuming less than a pint then getting behind the wheel may land you with a 12 month driving ban but proposals are afoot to allow the same technology that blithely declares that it's encountered an error and will have to shut down to take charge of a ton+ of death.
Funny old world innit.
