If you flick over another channel like news and media you will see this thread is ongoing since 2243 last night.
sorry I meant "media and TV"
He hasn't been sacked.

The BBC has announced that it will not be renewing his contract.

It sounds like semantics, but it's not, there is an important difference.

As a freelance broadcaster, Jeremy Clarkson is under contract for a specific time, and that contract is about to expire.

What the BBC has done is to advise him that they are not renewing that contract, which is slightly better than actually dismissing him under the terms of his current contract.

It probably means that they are able to broadcast the final episodes of Top Gear and more importantly, sell the entire series abroad, which is where the serious revenue comes from.

The futures of his fellow presenters are open to debate, as their contracts also fall for renewal.
His 2 collegues both have contracts for other BBC shows.
So Danny Cohen has got his way then - the enmity from Cohen to Clarkson has been well publicised.

I watch Top Gear solely because of Clarkson, so Top Gear will lose one faithful viewer....I strongly suspect I am not alone.

It will be interesting to see whether Hammond and May have any appetite to continue.

Ultimately, I can see Cohen's actions being the demise of Top Gear and putting a number of people out of work.

Will they re-vamp the format? There have been a few on this site who have whined that they want TG to discuss the merits of a Toyota Corrolla Diesel CO2 emissions against an eqivalent Kia's (or similar boring subjects) not realising its an entertainment show about cars, not a dry, boring factual programme like old TG.

I think it's Cohen's responses to which you refer - the actions were Clarkson's.
and he will have the last laugh, he will go on and make other programs and make more £millions....

BBC will never replace him and program will eventually die just like the dinosaurs.

Best thing that can happen now is for the othere two to quit, get another production company ( i imagine theres already things happening) and sell the program globally and hopefully shaft the BBC bigtime....

good luck to him.....love all the haters.... pure envy
BBC News channel read a tweet from Caitlin Moran.

A lot of men in high-waisted jeans will be flying them at half-mast today.
you might find the BBC have the rights to the programme and the format

Why do you think the BBC deserve to be 'shafted'?

They have acted within the legal and moral boundaries of the country and got rid of someone who has assaulted a colleague, which is the result you or I could expect if we behaved in the same way.

From somewhere, this has morphed into the notion that Clarkson has been treated badly, and deserves revenge on his previous employers - why?
i shall miss him on topgear and won't be watching chris evens if he gets the job .

Look forward to a New Programme on Sky then.
agree with baz.

And it could all have been sorted out the morning afterwards with a handshake. Shame on the jerk who blahed to the Mail.

Clarkson isn't finished yet, he has his lawyers in there to make the BBC squirm over the dumb assertion that he and Savile were alike...someone once associated with James Purnell's (Shadow Labour Chancellor) office apparently
mallyh - //i shall miss him on topgear and won't be watching chris evens if he gets the job . //

According to CE, he is not remotely interested in the job, and he is denying any and all rumours that he is taking over.
Neither shall I, Baldric, I can't stand that man.....I wish the BBC would fire him.

Not really - it was Clarkson who advised the BBC of the incident.

And I wonder why Clarkson is seen as the injured (no pun intended) party here?
The BBC don't own the Mail, do they?
