I love mushrooms & out shopping today in the market, I got a big box of baby mushrooms for a pound!
But they are so awkward to clean!!! I know you cannot wash them but it took me a good 15 minutes to clean some for our breakfast.
Anyone got an easier way???

I always wash mushrooms before I cook them. I don't really care that we're told not to.
I just wipe visible dirt with a damp paper towel. I'm not overly fussed otherwise
I just flick off the odd bits of compost, the ones I buy don’t have much on them.
If I had a load of small ones and they were particularly dirty looking then I’d probably give them a quick swish in a bowl of water, drain them a bit and then use a paper towel to pat them dryish.
Same as vagus. Washing mushrooms makes them soggy.
Mine seem fine. I wash them, dry them, and cook them. No problem.
I always peel them so I buy big field ones.
I eat them dirty!
I peel mine.
I’m just lazy and can’t be bothered washing them, plus I don’t think they need to be washed. I love them raw and always eat a couple when I’m chopping them.

And you're still alive Prudie!!!
I just wipe away any bits of compost with a tissue
Same as Barry, but we just wipe with dry paper towel. Have never washed them. Never peeled them.
'All wild mushrooms should be washed and it is crucial to dry them out afterwards," says Joseph Rizza, Executive Chef of Prime & Provisions in Chicago. "Cultivated mushrooms, like buttons and portobellos can be cleaned using a dry cloth or paper towel to wipe off the excess 'dirt' they are grown in'
I would add that i'm not that fussy and just wipe off large patches of the growing medium. Cultivated mushrooms are grown in sterile conditions. I had a tour of a local mushroom farm some years ago.
Actually im not keen on mushrooms butv quiteclike the portabello. Mothervin lawcusedvto pickle them. Slimy horrible things when pickled!
Omg. My typing is getting worse.
I always keep a bag of frozen sliced mushrooms and a bag of Tescos frozen mushroom medley and I always have dried porcini mushrooms on hand too. Great for a quick addition to stews or risottos. No cleaning required.

Although for fresh, it's a quick wipe with a damp cloth.
anyone on here tried the magic ones?
Little fiddly button mushrooms I pop in the salad spinner, swish until filth is detached, then spin dry.
Bigger ones, rinse under slow tap (gill side down) and remove dirt with fingers, put them onto the chopping board (gill side down) as they come out of the tap, and then cup a gently hand over them as I lift them board and all and tilt over the sink to drain juice.
I eat raw mushrooms every day and cooked at least twice a week
I stuff Portobello mushrooms with spinach and any ooozy cheese. Yum!
