What is the difference between a ballistic missile and a cruise missile?

Ballistic flight happens when a missile is launched and then left to follow a non-powered trajectory. Cruise missile is powered and controlled during its trajectory. At least, that's what I think.

Cruise missiles have programming and use TERCOM navigate terrain to reach their target. Ballistic means it is a projectile and although these days can be accurately targetted they are essentially fired up in the air and arc to their target.
