I wondered if we're at the tipping point between being grumpy about Christmas coming up and resigning to the fact that, yes, it's happening again and you ought to buy some presents early.

Always my intention, but part of me likes the December 20th-23rd chaos - ricocheting around understaffed and nearly-bare shops in competition with others; all entirely worth it for the Christmas lights outside a pub window at the end of the day while you wait for your soggy shoes to dry.

The presents are often cursory - it's mainly about food on the day itself. There's still something nice about wrapping paper strewn around a living room though.
