Dear All,

We had a request from some Q&P users about the font used in the questions and answers on The AnswerBank, mainly the problem was that using Arial produced some characters which look identical namely:

l & I

Or:

L & i

So we're changing it.

Hit F5 or ctrl+F5 to see the results.

Hope you like it. Let us know if you spot any bugs!

I don't know, but I've just noticed I've signed off twice?

I think that when you start looking closely at these things you could go mad very quickly. Let me know if you find an answer (and that it is an issue?)

Most fonts around are a relic of the printing press and were designed for legibility when read from paper. Arial was a copy of Helvetica, which was designed for paper printing.

Verdana is a great font for the screen because it was actually designed for the screen, it was commissioned by Microsoft in 1996.

For that reason virtually all computers have it pre installed. A good choice.

Interesting Trim, will have a look into that.

Anyone finding it a problem by the way?

looks very spacious, room to hang a hammock and maybe fit in a couple of dwarfs.
The x height (that is the height of the lowercase letters) in Verdana is higher than most fonts and therefore ever so slightly wider. The space in a word is determined by the x height, so different fonts have a different letter space.

OK. I'll be different. I don't like it, it makes reading a large paragraph harder. Give me back the Arial font.
♫I can see clearly now...♫

Just passing through & what do I find? Thank you for listening! Best thing I've seen on my screen since the thing I'm not allowed to talk about...

Won't know until I submit, but don't suppose we've got the italics etc back yet? (Not even sure I remember how to do them!)

If not, oh well, the font change alone is cause enough for celebration!

No styling yet LiK! But one day.... one day....

We did think of you when implementing this change. Hopefully all the Q & P users will be roughly 4% more cheerful because of this upgrade.

All the best,

Ive just clicked F5 and absolutely nothing happened - what did I do wrong?
I thought I liked it.........but long answers seem extra-specially long and I've found myself disinclined to read them....
you say that like it's a bad thing, jack

pish and tush, there's heaps of space in the answers, even for people like me who can't see which way the Imax screen is.
I really can't see any difference and I am avoiding hitting any F key for fear of f...messing things up on my comp. when everything is working ok and, because an ABer (jno I think) told me how to increase the size of displayed print, I am happy with things as they are.

Ron.
Looks better - certainly not a pɹɐʍʞɔɐq step :)
It's not the spacing that's FUBAR as such, the questions are in 13px and the answers are in 12px.
