It came on the news when my radio alarm clock went off early in the morning. I was on day shift back in the days when I worked shift. Funny how much detail one remembers.
The thing is, Elvis was very uncool at that time - but it had a definite impact. I suppose for me it was the first of the greats to go - pre-Lennon...was it pre-Bolan?

I was off sick in bed, felt a lot worse after that news, the Palais was gutted by fire in 1977 then Elvis death, the best dance floor in the North West, anyone any memories of Palais in Bolton in 1960's?
