Afternoon all,

Some changes coming up, we'll probably be down for an hour at 9pm.

1. Search pagination, improved look including the original poster and a "last by" link.

2. Additionally we've added a relevancy score on searches and related question. We plan to make both better, but we thought the information was interesting enough to display for now (if a bit wonky)

3. Fixed the lifetime service badge being incorrectly awarded bug, the long titles effect layout bug, and the long link issues on
http://m.theanswerbank.co.uk/

4. We're updating the badges and best answers code, and Best answer and badges should tally correctly after the update.

5. We've fixed some ad positioning issues and begun to change the language from "register" to "sign up"

All the best,

Ed

"I must be using the pleb version of Search because it's rubbish e.g there's a crossword titled 'Beelzebub' and I want to find recent questions about it so I do a search and what is the result? page 1 of the found questions is a mixed set from 2003 to 2012 and, in fact, not 1 question out of those 170 is from 2013 - yet here's one from last weekend http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Quizzes-and-Puzzles/Crosswords/Question1232036.html - it's just a useless set of search results."

I don't disagree - I was certain it had always been that way though. I will be looking in to this today.

All the best,

Thanks Ed.
the reason why i mentioned searching for my username in my first posting was that it provides a convenient way to find those recent questions (and answers) which might request my attention

Does clicking your monkey face not get you there? (for now, while we investigate)
i suppose you're right ed, it's about the way i use the site - so for me the search function seems pointless now but if others are happy then what does that matter

If there's a change, we're going to fix it - because we didn't ask for the change.

I'm just letting you know there is a way around it, for the time being while we're working on the above :)

people quite often use the shortened form of my username 'bibble' and there's now no chance of finding recent questions/answers if they do but, hey, that's their loss

Ah, I've got the right end of the stick now. You're after questions which require your specific help! Sorry!

As I have said, we'll fix it.
Morning Ed - the search function certainly seems to have changed.

Firstly - this morning someone asked a question on the Mephisto 2745 crossword which I was sure I'd seen answered previously, but nothing came up in the search box - I had to Google to get the previous answer.
Secondly - when searching for a specific crossword, EV Listener Inquisitor etc. previously the answers came up in order with the most recent first. Now old results from 2007/8 fill the first page of answers.
I appreciate that these may just be teething problems.
they currently seem to come up in order of relevance (as calculated by robots), which makes sense; but in topics like Crosswords, TV etc it would really make more sense to have the most recent first.

I can see this would require different programs for different topics, though.

Slaney & Jno,

We'll get there - but maybe not today :)
*wonders if ed has any hair left*

Mccfluff, I think this is probably the most civilized response to a update we've ever had. It's probably because searchers are frankly a better class of AnswerBanker.
Still showing 10 years membership badge which I am not entitled to.
Same here.

Apparently the badge processing is still ongoing - so please consider that "in hand".
