We've just suspended 13 members who decided to post nonsense in a thread in Law.

I'm making this post as it will hopefully cut down on the number of indignant emails we get... It's a bit of a special case as it's a large number of members and many of them are long serving and much liked members.

I shouldn't have to say this - but there's only one place for nonsense, and that's Chatterbank.

In Law heads roll when you muck about.

But you know that already...

Here is the thread:

My comment is at the end here, where I closed the question:

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Law/Question1307583-31.html

Users were suspended for passing judgement, spamming nonsense, being rude, counting the number of answers in hope of getting to whateverhundred, posting irrelevant answers, encouraging irrelevant answers, and generally taking the piss.

Some of these users also gave good answers and then went of the rails. It makes it a little sadder than restraint couldn't have been shown on their part.

I know it's easy to get swept up in a bit of playground bullying.

But they weren't in a playground.

I know sometimes those asking questions can be frustrating, but the lack of empathy and compassion was stunning. If you don't like something, please just avoid posting on it... I have no idea why this isn't obvious.

Apologies to the rest of you - you're probably as bored of this kind of behaviour as I am, and would prefer to not read any more about it.

All the best,

Ab Editor.

PS. I don't care if it's "unfair" in any way. Thanks.

It’s not very often that I stick my head above the parapet but on this occasion I must do so. Firstly, I accept I did post some fairly intemperate replies to the OP on the estoppel thread – for that I apologise. Yes I was losing my rag and yes I probably shouldn’t have done so. Secondly, when posters go to the Law section I am generally appalled with what they...

Maybe it'll do some good Maizie.
There are definite "regulars" here and they must be seen to be under exactly the same rules as everyone else.
I've seen some poor new people get hammered on their first day because a small crowd suspect them of being someone else.
In fact it happened to me. I used to have a different username but I forgot it so signed up again.
My first Q asked what you favourite flavour of crisps was and I had to virtually tell people where I lived before they'd back off.
A bit of humble pie does us all good sometimes.
everyone knows the rules, deal with it or bugger off. its not hard..

I like and enjoy the posts of a lot of those who are in suspenders but hey they knew what they were doing.......
well, that's the thing:

China - posts vanish, poster remains.

Snags - other way round.

A well balanced relationship, that.
I don't know why some are so affronted, I thought getting suspended was like a notch on the AB bedhead.
They've only been sent to the naughty step, hopefully they will all be back soon so nobody panic.

(I've no idea who is even missing. Nice being the thickest ABer at times.)
I don't know if Ed still has the rule of reviewing suspensions on the following Monday, so the offending suspenders have to wait a few days.
2sp. you didn't use 'wee'.
Jno would you rather ED just banned everyone on sight?
Other people's posts were removed or ED warned them directly BEFORE they were suspended.
This is turning into a silly drama imo. People broke the rules. Most of us like the rules, so we abide by the rules.
It's not hard.
Tilly, that was a wee bit remiss of me.
So how long is one suspended for these days?
As long as The Ed deems fit I suspect NoM
^as above, I think it may still be until the following Monday, when Ed reviews the situation, but I'm not sure if that's still the case.
it's all fine by me, MJJ, I was just observing how well China and Snags have things worked out. It's like one stays home hoovering while the other one goes to Lidl.
Suspensions sometimes last weeks and even months . . . .
That's teamwork, jno.
I have to admit, I do try to sneak a swear word in here and there though.
ABEd,

A post got out of hand and you suspended a few people. I'm fine with that.

But I don't see the point of this thread. You don't need to justify yourself, you are enforcing the rules. You have just given an outlet for loads of people to whinge. 230 posts+ about nowt.
Sometimes we tag each other and that's how we know it's time to swap who goes to lidil and who does the hoovering.
Thank goodness I was watching 'Lincoln', the longest film ever. I could very well have been swept along with everyone else. It's very easily done.
Send snags round to mine with the hoover...mind's bust...
