Suggestion On Best Answers In Crosswords

You may have seen that there was an oft expressed niggle about Best Answers in Crosswords this morning and then the lack of courtesy in acknowledgement or thanks from the person who raised the question.

How about doing away with BAs in Crosswords and picking up on the first correct answer and measuring that? Is that technically possible, say the recipient to press a 'correct' button on the answer.

I make a mental note of posters who don't say thank you and never hep them again. I first joined this site to ask a xword question. It was answered by Mamyalynne and kayakamina and I've since stayed on to help others with their questions. It's a great site and I think the BA system is ok and doesn't really need changing.

Quite often many posters post the correct answer at the same time.

Nice idea DTC, but there's always a "but". Occasionally, someone will proffer an answer which looks right, then later, a better one comes up.

It's not always cut and dried.

Zacs - Ed could give badges for different levels of lead correct answer. Probably need one at 50000 in Danny's case!

The Builder...yes i agree, but this rarely happens in Crosswords.

Nothing will be perfect, The Builder, but a 90 per cent solution is surely better than the current....

The example in question maybe the OP gave it to their friend as can happen just as much in crosswords as it does elsewhere.

This is a difficult topic as lots of ABers think those who moan are jealous and that the BA tally they have doesn't matter a jot. I have to agree with some of sqad's views, I think Crosswords should have a separate system. It actually is a lot harder to give a reasoned best reply in the topics than it is to post the correct answer in a crossword that you have highly likely already completed at home (or dare I say seen already answered).

A couple suggestions 1.If only one answer give it BA.2.If multiple answers give it to the best answer to the clue ,unless more than one person gives same answer at same time in which no BA given.3.If same multiples answers given at different times, give it to first posted.

I gave someone a shopping list of answers once .Not a thank you ..nowt.
Someone else directed another poster to my answers and got best answer for doing so !!
Yes it needs overhauling .Best answer should be abolished in Q&P .It causes nothing but aggro.
