Serious Questions Have No Place In Chatterbank
102 Answers
Good morning.
More and more questions and comments are being asked in chatterbank that should be asked in the appropriate category. Because of the Question or comment being put in this category it is much easier for the 'usual suspects' to mock and bully anyone who has not got the same opinion on the subject as them as mocking ,cheap jibes and bullying seems to be allowed and not moderated. On News and Body and Soul questions I would prefer to answer these in the correct category which is properly moderated When they appear in chatterbank it is open house for ridicule and bully boy tactics and will surely put off new members should they stumble on the mayhem looking for a serious answer.

Hi Retrochic, Not sure what you want us to do about it :-) We cannot stop users posting where they will and as many of your replies have stated CB does get a lot of traffic and stuff gets seen there. If we start being too heavy handed with the moderating then people will start leaving and the site will be sad :-( Please do continue to use the report function to bring...

true, humbersloop, I was forgetting too.
I think the serious answer has already been mentioned: that there's a warning sign outside CB that you mightn't get serious answers, and people enter at their own risk. That means not just the OP but anyone who wants to answer. I don't know who the usual suspects may be, but I think you just have to avoid playgrounds where you suspect cyberbullies hang out.

I find, sometimes, posting a serious question in a serious section too restricting.
I am not very good at sticking to the topic and usually sway off in another direction on serious threads - whether posted by me or a fellow AB person.
I find that the odd injection of humour and stupidness can help an otherwise strained conversation or answer on a thread.
I know that most people have a longer attention span than me but I have posted a serious question in CB more than once or twice or even more than that.
This is why I like cats - if they don't like you they bite you or claw you. If you are annoying them they bite you or just growl. It is much simpler than trying to work out human psychology.
Most people on this site are helpful to their fellow inmates at the asylum. If a new person mistakenly posts in CB looking for a serious answer they are usually dealt with politely and then they are either redirected or their question answers.
Maybe there are bullies on the site - and maybe there are cliques but unless the persons involved put 'I am a Bully' or 'Sisterhood clique' on their avatar I would never notice.

I've just had a quick scan of the past few days worth of posts and cannot really see much that is out of order.
Many people post in Chatterbank as they what a general chat about an issue rather than a clinical/clear cut response that may be received if posted in one of the specialist categories.
The moderation on this site is quite thorough sometimes I feel it is a little over moderated. Having said that my brief experiences of MumsNet tell me that I'd much rather have the level of moderation that is employed on AB to the free for all that is MumsNet.
