Can The Techies Not Syop This?

Ed, almost everyday B&F gets lots of the same spam. Here is some of what's come into B&F this morning. I know it's a bot but can't the techies filter them out? Why not close B&F for 24 hours to confuse the bot?

Would changing the topics name to something else e.g Commerce stop the spam?

if folk just ignore ..or report them without adding a response they go away...it's when folks keep posting comments to keep it live that is most annoying

Ed's only on duty for part of the day though so these remain until either Ed comes in or a mod sees it. Sometimes I have replied to get it onto Latest Posts with an appeal for a mod to zap it- and that sometimes works.
I, like others, keep reporting them but I'm wondering whether it's worth the trouble as once some are removed others appear.

I always report all of them and at the Ed's request, never ever reply to any of them. It only keeps them in "latest posts". All are reported though. Certainly a lot of it at the moment though. Grrr...

I think it may be a 'bot' that generates these and if it is I'm sure it's able to generate its own/spoof an IP address unfortunately, but it's worth teh techies having a look.

It's all very good being able to ban them as they appear, but we all know that doesn't stop the problem. I'm not techy minded, but I'm sure there must be something out there to stop them being posted in the first place.

Whist I agree with your concerns and hope they can find a a way to stop or stymie them - is it a good idea to C&P chunks of their text complete with clickable links?

Not that I'd know but I doubt a bot would care whether someone had responded. Or a human spammer come to that. Post then on to the next site.
