Perhaps the thread has been closed.
^^ Only explanation really. Hopefully a mod/editor will be along to explain in more detail why, if that's the case.

The previous Ed closed threads to new posts sometimes and teh new Ed seems to be doing the same. Normally Ed posts a message saying he is closing the thread to new replies but in your case TTT she didn't do this. On another thread querying this tonight I gave a link to around 150 other threads that Ed had closed and had told us he/she was doing so. There may be lots more where we weren't told or ed used a different message from "...closing this thread".
At least the threads remain for reference
The solution is to start a new thread referencing the old one, but I can't guarantee how long it will last!
The thread appears to have been closed. That will happen if the Ed (or a mod) thinks that things are getting out a bit out of hand (or, perhaps, wandering off topic) but there's still some merit in leaving existing posts online.

(The moderators got a new button to play with at the beginning of last week. I've not used it yet!)

I'm intrigues, Chico. What does your smart new button do?
I thought that I'd more or less explained things, Jack.

See the top right here to see what appears on my screen (that's not on yours):

Yes I wondered why that thread had been closed as well.

So why is it up to the Ed or Mods to decide when a thread is to close? Wouldn't a thread either naturally die and no one posts any more or the OP asks for it to be closed.

Threads often go off topic or morph into something else and unless the OP objects then isn't it just a natural progression of discussion?
Ah, I get the picture, Chico. You didn't make it quite clear that that was what you were referring to.
Boy - is this going to cause accusations of who has closed a thread and the reasons
The discussion in that thread was not progressing very well, cassa. In fact it was not progressing at all!
I think, Cassa, that the thread was closed because a certain prolific poster kept on making derogatory remarks about those who dared to disagree with his viewpoint.
"So why is it up to the Ed or Mods to decide when a thread is to close?"

I mean, who else would it be up to? Surely the point of moderators is to... you know... moderate?
JD, if my remarks were derogatory then the post would have been pulled completely.

Maybe the Ed could see the bully boy tactics of those who disagreed with me?
Who mentioned names?
Someone with enough courage to speak out, rather than hide behind snide accusations.
I really don't see the point in speculating (probably wrongly) about why the thread was closed, especially if it's just to continue the sniping back and forth that was going on in that thread to begin with.
Question Author
Ok I see the thread is closed but it was only a couple of days old and I felt it had not run it's course and indeed there were a couple of good posts at the end that I wanted to respond to. I was confused because I have rarely encountered a closed thread. thanks all for your comments.
Is the power for a Mod to close a thread, a newly given power?
