Question About Moderation
105 Answers
My question is does the editorial staff review all reports, or only those that have been followed through and the post deleted or the user suspended? Surely if the staff only review those reports that have been acted on, then the system is open to abuse by moderators who will be prepared to ignore reports against their friends.
On a recent thread someone made derogatory comments about how some people report . They could only be privy to this information by being told by a moderator. What is in place to prevent moderators sharing Reports with their AB buddies?

Not at all - and I didn’t say that. I said mods should be identified because secrecy engenders suspicion and that isn’t a good thing. It’s the very reason the anonymous band of secret mods are criticised.

I agree - but it's not always without good cause - and that’s the very reason mods should be identified. Those who do abuse their position - and, make no mistake, it happens - would think twice about doing it.

To summarise:
Any member (mods or otherwise) can use the report button on any post. The report goes to the Editorial team, not to the moderation team - i.e. mods do not see reports. The Editorial team is only there 9-5 Mon-Fri.
Mods can be on the site any time of the day or night, as they see fit. They can remove posts or entire threads (e.g. spammers). They can also close threads. They cannot edit posts. Any action they take is accompanied by a report so that the Editorial team can see not only what they did, but why they did it. Mods don't see reports from other mods and they don't know who other mods are.
