The will become unusable if we don't stop adblocking as much as it does if we do!

Totally agree TTT. I pay £2 per month to access a forum and can leave at anytime. This would be acceptable to me, but I have to say the subscribed forum has 100's of 1000's of users so the subscription fees keep it going. I doubt if AB now has more than a couple of hundred regular users so the subscription fees would have to be high.
End of an Era I think...
I too would rather pay a subscription, with my partial sight the moving and flashing Ads are a nightmare.
If you have to pay a subscription what would happen if you got banned?
Haven't seen it yet... paying would make more sense. It should also prevent a lot of spammers. Last time I had adverts, the site became literally unusable, so I hope we get the choice at least.
You stop paying, ummmm.
I access this site from both an IPad and computer. I have ad blocker on the IPad and never had a problem. The ads on the computer are mostly in the midddle of the page and are ok. I do not have flashing and jumping ads. Could it be my location
Yes but you can't change your bank details every time you re-join.
Regarding folk who are banned, what is in the Terms and Conditions on sites with subs?
No one gets banned on the subscription sites I go on. You are treated like adults and they are more or less self-policing. Someone acts like a ***** and usually gets told by other users to grow up/ wind in/ do one etc. AB would be a lot more interesting if they took this approach.
A subscription model is clearly not inconsistent with moderation -- people who pay to join clubs are still obliged to follow a code of conduct -- but I'd say it's inconsistent with the way moderation works on the site currently. At the very least, it would probably need to be easier to appeal any decision, or you could add a method of private communication with users, equivalent to taking them to one side and explaining what they have (allegedly) done wrong.

Actually, either (or both) of those changes should perhaps be considered anyway, whether or not AB switches to subscription/voluntary contributions. "Answer removed"/"thread closed" is such a catch-all that covers all manner of sins, from the minor case of being a duplicate thread on a topic to the major case of utterly inappropriate content that needs to be zapped pronto.
I don't think you'd need to, ummm, just a new email address.
I don't have adblocker - I just ignore the ads!
bro i use my phone idek how to put ad blocker on the phone it is what it is
With moderation as it works here, I wouldn’t pay to use the site.
I don't usually have a need for adblocker. On my tablet at the moment, I have a whopping 2 ads. On my phone...just 1 at the very bottom of the page. Why do some people get so many that the site is unusable?
The ads literally don't bother me.
I don't get "flashing" ads. Sometimes video, etc, but the ads on newspaper sites are far worse.
Yes Pixie, but you'd have to put your bank details in again so AB could find out if you are a banned user.
Pasta....Daily Mail site is unusable for me.
ummmm, I think AdBlockers were invented BECAUSE of the Daily Mail :D
Try one - it makes a huge difference to that site
