The Current Ab Editor Will Be Leaving Soon!
65 Answers
Hi all,
I wanted to let you know that I will be stepping down as AB Editor in a few weeks as I am moving on to a new role elsewhere.
The AB Editor account will be taken over by the new AnswerBank owner, who you will have already seen posting over the last couple of months from the ABEditor22 account. ABSpareEditor will be continuing to deal with the day-to-day as he has since 2018 - he's basically been running the show for a while now anyway and he does a fab job.
I've been the editor since I took over from our last one in June 2017. Before that, I had been Spare Ed since 2015 so have racked up around eight years here!
I'd particularly like to thank everyone for your support when I was off having my operations in 2018, and cheers for all the entertainment over the years! I'll be sure to continue lurking after I've left, and I'll be here for a couple more weeks yet before I finally step down.

As Spare said, yes we do work together closely - we have met countless times and I consider us good work friends. :)
Maydup: "Before you go please do tell us what a typical day is like as Ab Editor? Is it full time? What are the challenges? What was your best day?"
Being editor is a small part of my job at AB's parent company, but it's an aspect of the role I have very much enjoyed. Typically Spare Ed or I will check the email inbox in the morning and throughout the day, which includes: seeing all the spam our wonderful mods have removed; looking at other moderator actions and ensuring we're happy with them (I can count on one hand the moderator actions I've reversed in my time here); replying to queries such as forgotten passwords, emails from advertisers, that sort of thing. We also do a bit of lurking around the site, but don't have too much time for this, which is why we don't always spot things and do need members to help by reporting things as the site is quite big. I remove spam myself if I see it, though often someone beats me to it! I'll also move threads to more appropriate categories if they have been put in the wrong place, and occasionally weigh in to tell people to chill out if things are getting too heated, or even to offer my own reply or opinion on a question (it's allowed!)
The challenges I have in the role are with moderation and making decisions on whether something needs to be removed or otherwise dealt with - these decisions aren't black and white, and it's not easy to know where to draw the line between someone giving their opinion (which may be very different to mine) and their comments being offensive enough to be removed.
There's no one best day that stands out for me on AB, but I do particularly enjoy interacting with members more than anything else. Unfortunately, browsing AB would send me down a bit too much of a rabbit hole and distract me from my other work if I'm not careful!

So when do we all get our invitations to your leaving party then, Ed? I've already started the whip round for your present and we're doing pretty well up to now. So far I've collected three old ha'pennies, a few old Italian lira, half a dozen rusty washers, a half-sucked gobstopper (complete with pocket fluff), some nice shiny empty sweet wrappers and several intimate items which appear to have been discarded from an amateur production of The Full Monty. How's that for a display of ABers' generosity then, I ask you?
