Donald Trump is to sign an Executive Order that only he and the Attorney general can say what is legal. How long will the Americans continue to let this sort of thing happening?

It is only th beginning of his reign.  He could do so much damage to his own country and internationally.

The touble is that people tend to support villains and would-be dictators because they think that the would-be is on their side. They'll find out that the would-be will become the actual dictator and will then mistreat them as they would have hoped he would mistreat the 'others'. Very sad, bigly sad.

He has all the best stormtroopers and the best licked fundament in the world.

Trump – The Dictator in The AnswerBank: Society & Culture

I've been surprised at just how flimsy the American democratic system has been all along.

They've always been proud of the fact that they got rid of a king, but it turns out that's pretty much what a president is. They can rule by decree, issuing executive orders willy nilly that bypass the whole congress/senate system and ignore the much vaunted constitution.

All anyone seems to be able to do is to challenge things in the courts, which seems to simply delay the inevitable.

What a farce.

Aren't executive orders subject to approval by the courts?

dictator my April! He'll be out when his term is up just like the rest.

You’re well behind the times, he signed it almost a week ago:-

Americans can hardly complain that they voted a dictator into the White House, he said as much during his election campaign.

He's talking about a third term tora. Please don't trot out the old that's just Trump being Trump niceties.

I think we've seen enough to be beyond all that. When he says things like that we all know he means it.

The old chap with the scythe could take steps to stop a third term.

Despite the constitution barring a president from serving more than two terms, moves are already afoot within the Republican Party to see that Trump will be president again in 2028.

Remember he also said during his election campaign that they would not need to vote again (after the 2024 election); so if the dictator lives up to that election pledge, there will be no more democratic elections in America.

//he said as much during his election campaign.//

Yes, no-one can say they weren't warned. Actually, that's not true. If they relied on Fox news, Daily Mail and Breitbart for their info, they can say they weren't warned.

Serves them right for being so thick I guess.

Perlease you lot are hysterical. He'll have to repeal at least 9 of the first 10 amendments. Even his own side would baulk at that.

This recent article from USA Today includes a poster of Trump in a very ‘Cesar like bust pose’ with the wording ‘Trump for 2028.......and beyond’, plus a sticker reading ‘Finish the Job - Trump 2028

What, exactly, do you imagine 'his side' is? He's a one man party with a few hangers-on in his wake, presiding by decree and taking no advice.

The only hope for the world is that he dies soon and all of this can be forgotten.

I think I was first accused of being hysterical when I said Trump was only going to accept the result of the 2020 election if he won it.

Trump is not repealing the constitution, he is signing Executive Orders that directly contradict various constitutional amendments.

These are being challenged in the courts; but if the courts take the view that Trump’s interpretation of the law is the only interpretation that counts (another one of his Executive Orders) – he can change whatever law/constitution he likes.

21:11 The repuplican party, he'll need them to tear up the constitution. You're all a bunch of crackpots if you think enough senate and congress will help him do that.

He's a one man band. If you don't like his music, tough!
