Virdee Plot Help Please

I've now watched four episodes of this series and am confused.

I know that Virdee and Riaz are brothers-in-law but I don't know how.  Is Riaz the husband of Virdee's sister or is he Virdee's wife's brother?

They weren't related when they were children (as far as I know) so why were they both in the shop as children when the young lad was stabbed to death with the scissors?

Grateful for any light you can throw - I know it's a while since it aired.  

Also, the father of the abducted boy - is he the Chief Constable?

Not related, then.  So why was boy Virdee in the house part of the shop when the attack happened?  The shop belonged to Riaz's family.

Harry killed the guy in the shop with the scissors when they were young, but Riaz took the blame and went to prison instead of Harry.  This is why Harry is beholden to him and (presumably) why he lets him get away with his nefarious activities.
