Starmer Vows To Protect Uk Businesses From Tariff 'Storm'

What a hero - never mind the negative impact the rise in the minimum wage and higher employers' NI contributions will have on businesses. His sidekick has probably done more damage to UK business than Mr Trump's tariff.

any uk prime minister would be promising to protect uk businesses from the impact of the tariffs and the possibility of a trump recession. it would be very strange for someone not to do that.
i think you've just spotted an opportunity to have a pop
“what exactly do you expect him to do…”
He could begin by getting a US:UK trade deal settled. It’s clear one is within reach but he’s probably too bothered worrying about chlorinated chicken or some other diversion that (he says) prevents him aligning the UK with the US and away from the sclerotic EU.
He could make a gesture of goodwill in that direction by scrapping the import duty of 10% on cars manufactured in the USA and sold here. It would cost next to nothing. Fewer than 60,000 cars from US manufacturers were sold here last year (less than 3% of the total sales of new cars).
He could then persuade some companies currently based in the EU and who do business with the US to set up shop here in the UK. This would cut the effect of the President’s tariffs by 50% for them and possibly more if a UK:US trade deal is reached. It would also improve investment in the UK and create jobs here.
But he won’t do that either because it might upset “our friends” in Europe.
Despite one poster in this thread thinking people were making a "fuss" over the ENI, it was clear the rise was anti-job and anti-growth, both of which are now being played out.
The rise was under the guise of the mythical black hole, a black hole the OBR hasn't ratified, in order to pay off their union paymasters. Reversing this would protect UK businesses.
