On the silly basis that everyone must be able to walk to the loo that effectivly bans travel for wheelchair bound passengers. Surely the person conscerned can't be that thick? Did she just make the rule up? ...and why did the rest of the crew go along with it? Makes no sense.

"A easyJet spokesman said: "We are very sorry Mr and Mrs Dobner and their companion were unable to fly as planned with easyJet. We are in touch with Mr Dobson and his party to apologise for this error and to refund them in full for their flight and provide them with denied boarding compensation."

So Easyjet say it was an error, so clearly they have idiots on their planes.

You pay peanuts etc.

Express sad faces are even worse thaan the daily mail sad faces!

In all honesty he doesn't even look like he could fit into an aeropplane seat. Plus I would assume that he was actually using the bottle before they'd even taken off, otherwise why have it out for the stewardess to "notice"?

Plus I agree with the highlighted comment in the article - there is a huge difference between needing a wheelchair and his almost bedridden state in the photos.

Question Author

bednobs, he wasn't using it:

"Barry told the Liverpool Echo: "A stewardess walked by and she said 'excuse me, do you have a urinal bottle?'. My wife said yes, in case of emergencies."

they just randomly ask that do they? your bit of article doesnt say she didnt see it and he wasnt using it.

I'm guessing the staff saw the portable  urinal(quite why it was out on display I don't know), and it wasn't really to do with being able to get to the toilet, but sitting in the plane seat and having to get his *** out to have a wee!

Question Author

it was in his hand luggage, presumably the bag was open:

"However, trouble arose when cabin crew noticed Barry had a portable urinal bottle in his hand luggage."

But that's irrelevant, many wheelchair bound people have urinal bottles.

i'm guessing we are never going to agree on this.  easyjest's website states that you have to be able to transfer to a wheelchair and use the loo. "

We have an onboard wheelchair on every aircraft. You must be able to transfer yourself on to the chair, or with the help of your companion, and the Cabin Crew can assist with taking you through the cabin to and from the toilet door"

therefore why need a bottle to pee in front of everyone if he could do that

I flew with EJ a few weeks ago and boarding was delay whilst 9 wheelchairs were used to ferry passengers.

When we arrived in Belfast 2 of the wheelchair passengers got up and walked off the plain with no help! The cabin crew were bewildered and sent ground staff after them - when they finally caught up with them at the luggage hall the 2 passengers laughed and ignored them!

I feel sorry for the cabin crew, they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I'm with bednobs on this.  The crew member went away  presumably to consult colleagues.  It sounds to me that they were following Easyjet's rules.  The apology I guess is just making the right noises.

It sounds like the passenger couldn't self lift and self toilet and his companion (wife in this case) who should be there to assist with that couldn't help him do it either which is why he was offloaded.

Why did't he have a catheter? Imagine sudden turbulence whilst using a portable urinal.  Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink

bednobs, easyjet doesn't say you have to use the toilet, but if you do the staff will not help you transfer to your wheelchair so you must be able to move yourself or with the help of your companion.

I have trouble walking long distances and standing for a length of time so depending on which airport I fly to or from I will arrange wheelchair assistance. Example at Porto airport Ryan Air does not use an air bridge and there can be 100 steps to climb if the walkways are closed and the walking distance from the plane can be 20 minutes so I arrange a wheelchair for the arrival but walk dow the steps from the plane. However  I am sure that some people abuse wheelchair assistance

//easyjet doesn't say you have to use the toilet//

I think they say you do.

//You must be able to transfer yourself on to the chair, or with the help of your companion, and the Cabin Crew can assist with taking you through the cabin to and from the toilet door//

The 76 year old invalided passenger is the real idiot, he hasn't realized that not everyone can go everywhere.

Yes, Naomi. You must be able to transfer yourself to the chair.

I have a concern about people this disabled flying.

In an emergency he would be a serious liability to the crew and possibly a risk to the passengers.

Should the lives of many be risked because one person fancies a holiday?

Yes, barry - in order to get to the toilet.

I too think there's a safety issue to be considered.  I can't see how someone that size fits into an economy class seat anyway.
