I currently use a 64 bit windows system and am having a bit of an issue trying to find a security program for it. mainly a good firewall. I know windows has its own but i dont trust it. I have ghostwall but as far as being user friendly, I think not. There is really nothing to tell you how to use it. Any suggestions ? It doesnt nessesarily have to be free. After all, you cant put a price on security. If there is a good whole security program like Norton Internet Security, that would be great. If I have to have a seperate firewall and antivirus, I can deal with that. I currently use Avast for an antivirus.
If you're on broadband, you can probably use your router and/or modem as a hardware firewall. If it works as a firewall, and most do, then you won't actually need a software firewall, though activating the Windows one wouldn't do any harm.
Have a look in your configuration pages of your modem for Firewall, NAT and Stateful Packet Inspection.
why are you using a 64-bit system right now anyway? most likely, you won't be getting much out of it. change from 32-bit is inevitable, but it certainly hasn't happened in mass yet (for the windows market, anyway).
I would suggest running the 32-bit system, with all your favourite software.
I currently run two computers at the same time, My Dell has all 32 bit and my new homebuilt computer has all 64 bit. I am using the 32 right now for the internet. As more 64 bit software comes out, I will eventually phase out the 32 bit.
the problem is that XP 64-bit may not be that great to phase towards.. vista, the next OS from microsoft (which will not be totally 64-bit either), has different api's and things to XP. so anything made for 64-bit XP may not work that easily with 64-bit vista.
