persuasive speech

Hello, I am in grade 10 and i have to write a persuasive speech although i have no idea which topic to use. I want a topic which is very original..nothing like "pollution" or "politics". My teacher said we could use any topic whatsoever like "WHy you should watch the O.C." Do you have any ideas??? It has to persuade people. Thanks

Why the internet is the best reference source.

I liked those kinds of assignments in school because all you have to do is be persuasive, even if you don't really believe what you are writing.

Yea i have tried the internet..but they only five me ideas like "current affairs or stuff like that

I think you misunderstand. What I meant is that your topic could be "Why the internet is the best reference source." You could give examples like
a) online encyclopedias and dictionaries outnumbering those in any library
b) question and answer sites like The Answerbank where you get to talk to real people
c) the possibility of finding animated videos that help explain how things work...
All without leaving the comfort of your home.

but don't forget that whereas one book may contain an error, the same error may be repeated a million times on the internet because of the ease of cutting and pasting. So you should always get a second opinion... or a third or fourth... before taking anything on the internet as correct. And that goes for talking to 'handsome young men' in chat rooms as well.

Haha yea thanks I had thought of that too..

But I just got an idea-

Hazing
From military school to college fraternities, initiations have always had moments and people go too far. Rather than banning it, should we allow it and try to give people the experience of learning how to moderate it so that when functioning in groups in the future they will know how to recognize and regulate behavior in order to prevent catastrophes.

Is that good??

yep, but do you have any personal experience of it? Life's always a bit easier when we're writing about things we know.

That is an excellent topic, but as jno says, it is much easier to write about something you know. If you can come up with reasons why hazing should be allowed and even perhaps why disallowing hazing could be detrimental, then go for it.

The important thing to remember in this particular assignment is that you are selling your point of view, whatever the topic. You must make the reader believe that what you say is absolutely correct and the way it should be.

Persuade 'em to stop smoking. It should be easy. If you fancy it I'll write it for you. I stubbed out my last one nearly seven years ago. No problem.

Or try something off the wall. Boys should take up knitting, or Make a cardboard submarine for your young cousins. Always think different. Stand out from the crowd.
