text disappearing when you submit

Sometimes when I submit a question or an answer here on the AB my text disappears the very instant I hit the submit-button. I'm sure it's happened to most of you at one time or another. For a while there I decided to always copy my text just before submitting, but (maybe I'm getting a little paranoid here?) that almost seemed to increase the number of disappearings... and although I had copied the text, it wasn't always possible to paste it in again, after the disappearing.

Has anyone found a pattern to this or - gee-whiz - maybe even a way of avoiding it...?
