The big "I'm leaving forever! Goodbye!!" type announcements are a bit egocentric though, aren't they? Just slipping away quietly seems so much more dignified. But why leave at all? There are loads of threads on this site that don't involve anything nasty or contentious. If people could only hold themselves back and ignore the troublemakers, they wouldn't find their strange little games such fun. Trolls love confrontation, and hate being ignored. Not always easy, I grant you, but the only way to deflate their egos.

It never ceases to amaze me that people actually care enough to respond to these posts. Often I suspect it is one user replying to themselves over and over, or just a pitiful attempt at attention seeking. A cyber-group-hug.
I did reply to the IAP post when he left but that was because like me, he had been around for a long long while. Even then, his last stand was a bit of an embarrassing self-pitying woe-is-me Im-the-victim debacle. I am more in favour of people disappearing like ships in the night much more veracity in that approach.
I suspect those that have done the dearly departed have re-emerged under a new name anyway. Its not poignant, just a bit sad.

when i was the landlady of my pub and certain people used to get cocky and after a few drinks and a row they used to tell me to 'stick my pub up my ar** ' (nice) i used to shout after them............'Dont slam that door on your way out.........you never know when you might want to walk back through it!!' cos sure enough after the grand EXIT, and then a week or so later when all their mates were still coming in and they felt too stupid, they would then come shuffling back, tail between legs etc.... similar situ here (IMHO) ; P
