Good evening Ed. I clicked on an avatar earlier because I couldn't see what it was and thought I would enlarge it. It did, but it also showed me the profile of the ABer concerned and an immediate link to all the questions they had asked. I don't like that and consequently have decided that I shan't have an avatar. Just thought I'd mention it.
Why don't you like it? I could understand if you didn't feel much for it either way - but to take an active dislike seems odd?
Everyone will have realise that whenever you write and submit questions and answers you are effectively "publishing" - i.e. your writing has become public. This is true of 90% of the internet!
The public element is important to the AnswerBank as we are a community, you throw your question out to the crowd, and the crowd respond!
Do you not think someone might find your area of expertise particularly enlightening?
I guess it would stem from not wanting folks nosing at what one has answered. If they want to know something on a particular thread that is different.
Personally it doesn't bother me aas all are welcome to benefit from my words of wisdom, if they have the ability, but I can understand a desire to tick a box saying, "No, past history is private".
I'm afraid sometimes I'm a little too 'open' and have probably on occasion given too much away..... however most of it is true (some of it tongue-in-cheek - which I hope is obvious). But, like Old Geezer said - if anyone benefits from anything I've said - either cos it's cheered them up, made them feel less alone - then that's got to be a good thing. I have nothing to hide - well, nothing awful anyway ;-)
An ABers postings can be found anyway either by using the search facility within AB or via a direct Google search (the Firefox add-on Insite Search lets you do it without having to remember the format for such searches).
So your postings were available before click-able avatars were introduced.
I don't mind my profile being public(although ABer's should be able to choose)
However,I would like the "last activity" to be the last time I posted, rather than the last time I visited AB(without posting) as it is now,I think?
I like to lurk in the bushes of AB without being seen! LOL
Picking upon something mentioned here, Ed is there a way to enlarge the avatars to see them better - my eyesight can't really make some of them out well. I don't mean permanently, I mean just to get a closer look? I even saved a couple temporarily into 'my pictures' but they just pixellate when I zoom.
Thanks Ed,for clearing that up(I think?)
However,as I never log out I presume it just lists when I last paid a call to AB,regardless of when I last posted?
Thanks that will be soon enough Ed,
Don't go to any lengths to find out,it is just this old man being pedantic,
and what do we pay you for anyway?
Oh,I forgot,we DON'T pay you! LOL
It looks like it's doing the last post as I've just looked at Mr V profile....and it said 17.00 something today. So if he doesn't log out....it must be posts.
I don't log out either....unless I see an evil look on OH's face when I get up to leave the room.
