If There Was Any Doubt Of Labour's Anti...

After a weeks break SportsnAll returns to your computer screens to once again dip its toe into the sporting pond, making sure the water is warm enough, before diving in performing a perfect pike and tuck routine.or something like that.
First on the menu this week is the prospect of pollution at next years Beijing Olympics. The word smog is being used far too frequently on this subject for my liking, which cannot be a good thing for anyone watching the games. To me smog conjures up images of pea-soupers filling up Victorian Englands streets and enveloping men and women, giving them hacking coughs. Surely one year isnt enough time for Chinese authorities to clean up the citys air, especially with a reported 1,000 new cars being registered for use around the streets every week. All cities provide their own problems of course and Beijing is by no means the first city to pose environmental issues to an Olympics. But any city where the inhabitants choose to wear face masks to protect themselves from the fumes is surely a step too far. Itll be interesting to see what the situation is like in a years time and whether there will be any significant change.
I always have a chuckle at early season football headlines. It is of course impossible to tell how a team is going to do over the coming season after only two games. This, however, hasnt stopped many people from declaring Martin Jols Tottenham team dead in the water after two losses in a row. Discontent has already reared its ugly head judging by the fans booing after the 3-1 loss to Everton. You never know, if I were a Spurs fan maybe Id criticise their tactics and name their new signings as a waste of space. I just think that new players need time to settle. In a few weeks time everyone will probably have forgotten this blip and Spurs will probably be challenging the top four as everyone predicted before the season. Come on Spurs fans, give them a chance!
Steve Harmison is likely to be out for quite a while with a back injury. Internal bleeding related to a muscle tear sounds very painful and I can imagine that hell be going stir crazy thinking that hell not only miss England matches but also Durhams Friends Provident Trophy final on Saturday against Hampshire. It looks like more pressure will be placed on the inexperienced shoulders of Ryan Sidebottom, Chris Tremlett, Monty Panesar for England. Jimmy Anderson will have to stand up and marshal the bowlers as he is the man with the most experience. Both England and India had a disappointing World Cup and so now is the time for one of them to play themselves back into form.
As a final point, apparently Alonso and Lewis Hamilton arent speaking terms. Shock! Theyre Formula 1 championship rivals on the same team, so tension is always going to be running high between them. Alonso must be frustrated that his junior partner has repeatedly outperformed him this season. He must have thought that Hamilton was merely a back-up driver when he joined. Sometimes the best teams are forged from dislike, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost at McLaren for example. So dont be surprised if the final races of this season are explosive and full of drama. Im still interested in what happens, which is unusual, normally I watch one race and then have a sleep for the rest of the season.
So thats another sporting week covered, another seven days of drama summarised and now its time for me to leave. But Ill be back next week (no more time off for me unfortunately) with more sporting comments for you.
