I ask my gddaughter what she's having for tea when her dad gets home, usually its spag bol. Kids often have to either get their own or wait until their parents come home from work later, and then its more likely to be something out of a frozen packet for microwaving.
Dont think i saw many fruit and vegetables either as a kid. My mum was agog with a microwave, and used it ....alot. Basically if the food couldn't be microwaved, we didn't get it. I know plenty, of my generation, who were exactly the same too.
The difference being however, was that we played out as kids, from morning till night, no chance of ever getting fat or even slightly overweight.

Exactly B00. I have a nephew of 9 who is still only allowed out on pre-arranged play dates. Kids just aren't allowed to go out anymore so sit on their backsides getting fat.
I don't think it has much to do with working parents either. My parents had 4 jobs between them at times and we still got decent cooked food most nights. If I chose not to eat it, that's a different thing.

if no one shows you how to "make meals from scratch", how are you supposed to cook that way?
Lets face it, you can buy fishfingers and a bag of frozen chips for a couple of quid from Iceland. Which of todays young mums is going to buy the (usually) endless ingredients, and at a massive cost, to make one meal with?

When I was working full time I found it really difficult to make a home-made meal (time was a big issue) but now I don't work all of our food is home made. The kids prefer the taste and it is cheaper for us to buy ingredients rather than ready meals. However, I do reserve the right (in my mind) to a 'freezer tea' if there is a lot going on or one of the little ones is poorly (and it is seen as a treat) - but they have to have vegetables with it to cancel out the 'bad' stuff.
