I'm confused by them. I've also seen one similar on a big poster for a rowntrees randoms competition thing and apparantly you can scan it in ( I'm assuming with something such as an iphone . . .)

What are they, and how do they work?

They're 2D bar code advertisements. You scan them with your phone and they take you directly to their website.

And the point is what? on the rowntrees advert it gave you the web address aswell, I'm sure it's jsut as much faf to set up the scanning ap (i'm assuming you need some kind of ap) as it is to type it in on the keypad . . .

Yes its a bit pointless when you're on here, but when you're out and about and see one of these barcodes on a bus shelter or a noticeboard you can just scan your camera phone at it. You'll be taken to the website of the advertiser.

and what about those of us whose phones don't have the facility (and tbh, I can't see why I would want it)?

ive kinda missed all this boat saga Molly now, does your cadet boss know how the money has come about now? Do you now have a enough for whatever it was you wanted it for? Do you get a special badge or summet? And more importantly, does Mark get a badge too? BOO, they were told the truth . . . you're friends of friends and people that know of me . . . the commanding officer was confused but pleased but was just worried you lot wouldn't be thanked properly as even £5 makes a difference, (especially when a load of you send one in) :D
