My 1.6 Seat Cordoba won't start. Lights and wipers work and I can push start it but there is no sound (at all) when I turn the ignition. Tried a replacement starter (but for a different year) and it swung once but then stopped. Could there be an elecrtical fault elesewhere?

Have you tried the engine earth lead!  A simple fault, and often overlooked.  One way to easily check this is to put a jump lead between the battery earth terminal and a good engine earth (like the exhaust manifold if exposed) and try to turn it over, if it turns over fast then, then there's your problem.

Good Luck!
