Tudor Crisps Olympic Medals

Anyone remember for sure what Olympics it was that Tudor Crisps did their Olympic medal promotion?. You collected empty packets and sent them off to get medals.

Googling it found someone saying that it was Munich 1972, but I thought it was Montreal in 1976. I remember collecting them and I would have only been 6 in 1972.

No particular reason for asking other than I bought my son a retro Montreal Olympic T-shirt (mainly cos it was green and in the sale and he loves green t-shirts!) and I was about to tell him about collecting the medals for that Olympics and thought I'd better get my facts straight!!

I grew up in the 1970's but I don't remember Tudor Crisps. Were they a regional brand?

well, I grew up in Scotland and they were as big as Golden Wonder here. According to Wikipedia, they were manufactured in North east England but were taken over by Smiths and ultimately by the company that owned Walkers so they were phased out about 2003.

My favourite Tudors were Gammon - but they used to repeat on you for weeks!

Strangely, for me it was salt 'n' vinegar in Newcastle and cheese 'n' onion in Glasgow...

I still have my "Tudor Crisps Olympic Games" medals from the '72 Munich Games....how sad is that!????

I know box, that's the same link I found, but i am sure he is mistaken. it was 76 I am convinced. At 6 I wouldn't have bothered an I'd have needed help to send of for things. At 14 I wouldn't have bothered either for different reasons!! Therefore, it must have been Montreal when I was 10.

They did make vvvv interesting flavours, such as ....


Flavours such as Tomato Sauce, Pickled Onion, Turkey & Stuffing, Gammon & Spring Onion were developed and first produced right here in Hendon (later Peterlee) by Tudor. We owe their existence to their R&D.

Mid you to get these popular flavours we North Easterners were their guinea pigs and had to endure some of their failures such as; Pork & Apple, Kipper, Fried Tomato & Bacon, Sweet & Sour, Gammon & Pineapple, Brown Sauce, Mint Sauce, Curry, Chocolate, Fried Onion (I quite liked these), Spare Rib and finally Hot Dog & Mustard.
