Kelp with Statins ?

Is it OK to take Sea Kelp for an under active thyroid - not under active enough for Thyroxin ? I am on 20mg Simvastatin daily. How often should I take a Sea Kelp ? Thanks all.

There are no scientific studies, properly conducted, to show that sea kelp is any use at all in thyroid disorders, either overactive or underactive.

Sea kelp does contain iodine, but iodine deficient thyroid disorders are virtually unknown in the Western world.

It is up to you how you spend your money, but should you want to waste it on sea kelp then it will not interact in any way with statins.

Thanks sqad, I've already bought the kelp so may as well use it ! Just wondered about the statins though.

Kelp is a very beneficial nutritional supplement regardless of the thyroid debate.

I recently had a stroke and am now on statins - I asked a chemist who is supportive of alternative/natural remedies etc - she advised me not to take kelp with statins on the basis that kelp increases your metabolism
