I've recently moved into a house where one pane of the bottom two (which looks just plain daft) of the livingroom window has black criss cross fake lead in diamond pattern across one window. It's not real lead as I picked a tiny bit off a corner and it feels more 'plasticky' than anything. The bit I picked off has residue underneath which I assume to be the glue. Do you think it's possible for me to get this stuff off myself without leaving marks on the pane? Or perhaps I could purchase something to match the other bottom pane up? I looked up fake lead window strips but it's really just showing me real lead stuff which I'm not sure would match (if I even managed to get it on to match pattern on current pane!). Advice would be great.
*Update* Got it off easily using a razor blade - just lifted the edges of strips, peeled them off then used razor blade to scrape glue residue off. Much easier than I thought it would be! I'll leave this posting up just in case anyone else should have a similar problem.
You should be able to peel it off after warming with a hair dryer but,be careful not to get it too hot or you will crack the glass.
Any residue adhesive that is left behind could be removed with WD40.

If you find there's still a bit of stickiness left, use nail varnish remover or white spirit - they work differently and it all depends on the original adhesive used.
