European Drama Series - as good as anything in the uk produce?

Thanks to BBC4 and to the lesser extent Sky it seems the Europeans are taking over from the Americans in producing some very high quality drama series despite being in their native language (subtitled). Notable examples include: The Killing and Borgen from Denmark, Willander from Sweden, and my favorite being shown on Sky Arts - Romanzo Criminale le Serie from Italy. Of CoOf Course BBC and ITV still produce good drama but a few years ago we would not even have considered watching this on TVrse BBC and ITV still produce good drama but a few years ago we would not even have considered watching this on TV. Do other AB members agree????? .

I agree with all you have said..I am recording Montalbano..as I said on a post last night, the first series was good. I have seen all the above including Spiral a French production. Tired of all the American crap...we are supposed to be 'In Europe' so why not purchase the films, we take note of everything else they tell us...straight cucumbers..certain sized tomatoes!!! lol

Its superb chi-chi, definately these best thing (TV) wise to come out of Italy in a long time, think of a 70's Soprano's set in Rome instead of New Jersey, tough and gritty. Only 2 series as the producers have flatly refused to make a 3rd.

I look forward to it barney - loved the sopranos, my daughter bought me the box set at christmas, cos I missed it on tv. What a shame only 2series.

I'll stick to American drama programmes thanks, I prefer to listen to dialogue I can understand and not have to sit and read the screen.
