this petition is aimed at the governments decision to stop esa benefits for disabled people after 1 year. my husband is disabled and unable to work (he did have a job as a civil servant for 10 years before he went potty!) and our benefits have been stopped, leaving our family financially destitute. i have a job, but live in the south and pay extortionate rent, cannot get council/housing association accommodation, and bills that are just way too much.

i am going to have to do at least 20 hours overtime a week to replace the money and i am disabled myself (but do not qualify for any state help) and cannot see any future where we now drown in debt to scrape through. i already shop at aldi, use water from the bath to flush the loo, never buy any clothing, and have flogged anything worth money in my house (including my engagement ring) etc. and anything else that saves money.

disabled people everywhere have had their benefits stopped dead and the government don't care and have just ignored those who fall through the net for other benefits or support. hubby has also lost his care co-ordinator from the local mental health community team who supported us as they have restructered services to 'save money' - in real terms, this is dumping disabled people again. he has no support , his psychological counselling has been stopeed and i just don't know what to do anymore. everything has been taken away and now i have to kill myself working just to break even.

anyway....enough about the Sugar that has happened to me and my family over the last few weeks - please sign this petition and let the government know that they are fascist bar.stewards who think disabled people are worth nothing.

thanks very much, wolf. i'm also frazzled today - i have had to drag tons of shopping home today and now i can't walk this evening on my day off.....i'll have to crawl to work tomorrow and stuff painkillers down my throat just to 'pretend' i am feeling ok and am competent. i'll put my poker face on.....yet again x

thank you. i don't think the general public are aware that the govt have just stopped benefits for 40% of disabled people. it's shocking.

lcg, the link says that the benefits are only being stopped for people who don't attend interviews or return forms on time. Is there another link which explains (for those of us who don't know) the reasons for the stoppages you mention - I'd really like to know more about this. If people don't attend, there's a reason, but I don't understand why other disabled people are being affected too.

And thanks to Wolf sharing on Facebook, I've signed and shared it there too. I'm in a similar boat so I thoroughly support this. Not only am I having to deal with my brain tumour I've also been suffering pancreatic problems so I have been pretty much out of it just trying to get by on a day to day basis just surviving.

boxy...that is utter bollock s. sorry - but the campaign is about people who have esa in the 'work related' group have their benefits stopped after 1 year. my hubby has serious mental health problems and cannot work, yet was placed in this group. we now have no benefits and face financial ruin. there is widespread condemnation of benefits being stopped for disabled people, yet the government are doing it anyway. fyi...he has attended every stupid appointment with a4e who control access to esa and other benefits for the govt (and thats a whole other story!!!) but still has no no money at the end of the day and we're screwed. perhaps re-read my post (rant) and other info on esa stopping before passing judgement. the petition is about stopping esa changes and that's all we care about.

Thanks lcg - please be assured that I didn't intend to offend, I'm only reading what it says in the actual petition. I am fortunate not to need this benefit and I don't doubt what you are saying - your situation sounds horrendous. As ttfn says, that could be any of us. I wish you success in your petition, I really do.

sorry, boxy. i know you are not being judgemental....and maybe don't know about what is happeneing. i will try to find another link. honest, disabled people who do things properly and claim honesty are getting their income stopped dead. i am in bits about this and don't know how i am going to earn money through 20+ hours overtime to keep our heads above water.....and i am disabled too. but, because i work and the type of job i do, i am not able to claim anything myself. i could choose to stop working and just claim benefits....but this would give us even less money coming in. i will just kill myself physically trying to scrape by. i am angry, desperate, utterly sad, despondent and in tears writing this. i just don't know what i am going to do. but again....sorry.
