Sorry, bit dim about how cars work but I think there is a problem with my power steering system/thing. The car is a Chrysler Grand Voyager and when I first set of the steering makes a very unhappy noise and it is lasting for longer and longer with each journey. It passed its MOT in November, the tyres are fine, etc. Is this a liquid system and is it possible for a non-mechanic to top it up (and if so, can anyone point me in the right direction to do it)? Thanks. (To take it to a garage would involve himself and he is always at work.)

If you look under the bonnet of the car there is a small tank that holds the power steering oil, take off the cap & on removal the cap incorporates a dip stick, make sure its topped up to its mark.
To add, it may just be the Power steering Belt that needs adjusting, It's not a big job to do & can be done in 20mins by your OH.

Cheers, will be well chuffed with myself if I can sort it out.

Would the dip stick say Trans on it (I can only find that one and the normal oil one), if so its fine :(
Hi, its not a big job to do, lift the bonnet up & secure, if you look into the engine bay there will be a small tank the size of a measuring jug, undo the screw top / cap & as you withdraw the cap there will be a measure on the dip stick, if low just top it up with power steering fluid NOT ENGINE OIL, if it is up to the mark it will be the belt that needs adjustment but needs to be done with a spanner ( Not sure of the size).

Thank you - will get himslef on to it (if he ever takes a day off).
Hi, Sherrardk,
you mention "Trans on it" I take it the car is Automatic? that will be the Transmision oil ( Gearbox) Chas has Googled the Tank.
