My favourite advert goes back almost fifty years. It was for Mackeson's stout and was presented by the actor Bernard Miles. The script went:
" I like a Mackeson's. It looks good, tastes good and by golly it does you good."
At the time there was also a company which brewed bottled beers called Mann's. A friend of mine remarked that if Mann's had adopted that slogan with the mere change of brand name then their sales would have gone through the roof as far as the female population were concerned, not to mention a not inconsiderable size of the male population!
I can remember in 1976 when ITV celebrated its 21st anniversary, a programme featuring the London Symphony Orchestra and a professional choir (can't remember which one) devoted to a concert-style performance of all the sung jingles from the earliest days of TV advertising. It was brilliant! Only wish I could hear it again.
