Losing Stone Out Of A Diamond Ring.

My oh gave me a diamond and stone ring last week as an engagement ring.
It is a large gem with two smaller diamonds set either side of the ring. I have been wearing the ring less than a week and I have been very wary of it and careful whilst wearing it. And yet today at work half way through the day i realised one of the diamonds had fallen out with no sign of the stone anywhere.
I was upset and a little disappointed that this should happen when it's so new.
Is this normal for this to happen.
It was bought from an independent jewellers who has told us that he will send the ring off to the manufacturer and they will replace the stone or send a replacement ring.
I'm worried about the quality of the ring and my instincts tell me that a replacement would be better as this stone has fallen out so easily that maybe the other two stones may do the same or even i should opt for a completely different ring. I've never had this happen before so i don't know what's best. what do you think. any advice thoughts are appreciated.

Seems wrong for a new ring to do that. As it is a faulty item, I would get a refund and buy elsewhere.

Me too. The centre diamond out of my engagement ring fell out last October. I've been wearing it for 35 years!!

Luckily I found it.

i'm thinking the same. if the missing stone is replaced or we are given a replacement ring what's to say the same isn't going to happen again. :O(
my oh said we (meaning me) shouldn't make to much fuss and if the ring is sent off for a replacement stone it is probably the best course of action.. which i don't fancy at all.

My oh who works in a jewellers (and has done on and off for years) says that the manufacturers won't bother fixing it, they will likely just replace it as the reason the stone has been lost will be due to porosity of the gold which weakens it, they will just melt it down and recast it into something else. You 'should' get a new ring, it would be wise to check this with the retailer though who should happily (if they are any good) contact the manufacturer on your behalf.

I'd ask for a refund, but if you do get a replacement from the same place, have it checked by a jeweller before wearing it.

My wife had the same tragedy. But we didn't find the diamond so we had to put a new one. I advise you to get a diamond replacement from this website. I contacted the administration and they helped me very quick.
