I test drove the A3 and the Golf (same car underneath) and went for the Golf. Why? A3 is pretty cramped up front. Golf is more spacious. A3 controls are more difficult to reach than in Golf. Visibility is worse. Seats were not quite as comfortable. And you get more for your money with the Golf. p.s. I also test drove the A3 with the 2.0FSi and the 2.0TDi. TDi is way better. Real mid-range punch and great economy. Go for DSG too if you can afford it; it transforms the Golf and the A3.
