Vw Passat B5 Rear Light Conversion

Hello

I have a passat B5 estate and want the more up to date to date lights my car is 1999 and the lights I have are 2000 onward. I know the 99 has 3 bolt fixing and the 2000 have 4 bolt fixing I take it there maybe a slight alteration to the plug connection due to them being mismatched has anyone done this?
