Standard sizes are 40mm or 75mm to dust. Sometimes called 40mm down, or 75mm down.
It's simply that, for 40mm down, crushed stone is sieved through a 75mm mesh. This lets everything through up to a maximum of 75mm.
Because of its make-up, it's ideal for rolling into a hard, even surface. What they are really telling you, is that the ground has been hardcored, then rolled with scalpings to give a good, cheap unfinished surface....... unlike concrete or tarmac. You can finish it, or leave it.
