Oops!

I've just seen that I posted the same link twice.

Here's the missing one:

(If this post appears twice it's because I've had problems getting AB to accept it)
Aagh!!! Now I've posted on the wrong thread! SORRY!!!!

Anyway, router should always be left ON. The exchange system optimises the line speed (over a period of around 10 days) by periodically sending test signals to the router. If the router is turned off, the exchange detects that as a fault on the line and lowers the available speed to compensate.

So switching off your BT Hub will REDUCE your download speeds.
^^and whatever you do Bob, don't try running it on petrol

sorry Chris ;x)
I don't think it does any harm to leave the hub (router) on all the time.

After all what harm can it do to the hub?

However it does no harm now and again to turn off a router, leave it for a minute or so, then turn it back on again (say every couple of weeks).
Common sense, safety concerns, power usage etc all say "switch off".
However, actual practicalities of use (and your ISP) say "leave on".
I was speaking to someone at apple recently and they said it should be left on.
I used to switch mine off when not in use, but don't anymore.

It can confuse the equipment at the exchange into thinking that your line is not stable, and thus causing your ip profile to be lowered which will reduce your speed.
agree with Buenchico, never switch off the home hub. Ours stays on, 24/7.
Ours is always on even when we go away on holiday.
so is ours, diddly.
Here too, I only restart it if I have a problem.
