(Not walking distance unless you fancy it).You don't really need to hire a car unless you are planning on leaving the city. The public transport is excellent, buses, metro and tram all run regularly and on time!!
When are you planning on going, as in August much of the city closes down for holidays, only the supermarkets and main shops etc stay open. The weather at the mo is scorching.
Its a beautiful city. I've lived here for the last 8 years.
Near your hotel is a shopping centre called L'illa which has clothes, sports, toys etc.
There is a fantastic Italian restaurant called La Taggliatella on a road called Av. Josep Tarradellas (not far from the Hilton). Be prepared as the servings are enormous and you usually need to book.
